CLAIRE Shewbridge produced the result of the weekend for Lostock AC at the Horwich Festival of Racing when she came home second female in the Open 5k race, sponsored by Joseph Holt’s Brewery, in a time of 23mins 36secs.

In anticipation of the Festival of Racing’s invitation triathlon Paul O’Brien, Jack Bibby and Phil Sloane travelled to the midweek Shap super sprint triathlon where Bibby’s superior swimming brought him home in a time of 32:05 with O’Brien and Sloane posting times of 35:05.

Bibby’s swimming again prevailed at the Lostock AC-sponsored Festival of Racing Invitation Triathlon, finishing 37th in a time of 1:03:37, with O’Brien finishing 45th in 1:06:45.

After the race O’Brien said how much he enjoyed the atmosphere of racing in the festival on closed roads with fantastic home-town support.

Colin Gregory returned from the European Triathlon Union middle-distance championship in Herning, Denmark having placed 24th in his age group with a time of 4:45:07.

Matt Withers and Joanne Parncutt were the other Lostockers to brave the heat last weekend at the Flash in the Park 10k at Pennington Flash. Withers finished 55th overall in 50:25 while Parncutt came home in a time of 1:10:57.

Lostock AC also held its own Chairman’s trial championship on June 14.

Mark Liptrot was the first male home in a time of 32:55, ahead of Albert Sunter in second place and Tony Marlow in third.

In the women’s race Cath Schofield prevailed ahead of Sally McCoy, who was making a welcome return to competitive racing after injury.
