PAULA Pilling had a triumphant evening at the second of the four-race Barrow Bridge 5K race series.

Pilling was the first female finisher and first F40 as she set a new course record time of 20mins 14secs, finishing 10th overall.

She was one of three Burnden members who finished in the top 10. George Butler ran 18:28 to finish third overall and claim first u20 and Mark Jackson was eighth overall and first V35 in 19:48.

A total of 33 members took part with many registering personal best times for the distance and there were several age-group successes.

Tony Wall was first V60 in 21:10, Isaline Pollitt took top spot in F50 with 22:11 and Lucille Corrigan claimed first F45 in 23:11. Elaine Roper was first F55 in 25:27 and Phil Glassbrook first V70 in 26:21.

Jackie Oakes was second F40 in 22:41, Emma Walker second F45 (25:5), Jeff Pendlebury second V55 in 26:29 and Anthony Foster second V70 in 30:04.

Third places went to Neil Critchley, in his debut race as a V50, with a time of 24:08. Howard Sparke was third V45 in 24:37, Jackie Cairns third F50 with 28:09 and Linda Haines third V55 in 28:00.

George Butler also won his category in style at the tough Bull Hill Fell Race in Ramsbottom.

Butler was 28th overall and first male junior in a time of 43:12, making light of the demanding 5.5-mile course which involves 1,100 feet of climb.

Paul Duke came home in 46:01, followed by Don Nichol in 52:18 and Lawrence McDonald in 59:30.

Lorraine Halwood completed her 32nd marathon with a gritty performance at the Lions Bridge Marathon.

Halwood covered the first half in 2:02:02 and crossed the finish line in 4:42:22. Dawn Evans reached halfway in 3:07:49 and finished in 7:27:39.

Three members travelled to Lytham for the 5K event at the St Anne’s Festival Weekend.

Pilling was third female finisher and first F40 in 20:19. Jeff Pendlebury was fourth V55 in 25:27 and Christine Pendlebury finished in 34:49.
