WANDERERS have landed Newcastle United striker Adam Armstrong on loan until January.

The 20-year-old becomes the seventh new signing at the Macron this summer and will go straight into the mix to face Conference club Fylde tomorrow night.

Armstrong has played 21 times for the Magpies – 15 times in the Premier League, making his debut as a late substitute against Fulham in January, 2014, and starting his first game against Crystal Palace the following September.

He enjoyed a prolific loan spell at Coventry City in 2015/16, scoring 20 goals for the Sky Blues in League One, and after a short stint back at St James’ Park, went out to Barnsley last season.

Armstrong scored six goals at Oakwell in 21 starts, often played as a lone striker.

Sources in the North East suggest the youngster has been challenged to hit double figures in the Championship for the Whites and prove he can progress his career at his hometown club.

He has already sampled success with the England Under-20s this summer, making three appearances in Korea as the Three Lions lifted the World Cup and scoring in a group game against Argentina.
