LANCASHIRE Women are within touching distance of lifting the first domestic silverware of the season as they lead the NatWest Women’s County T20 Division One with one round of fixtures to go.

Led by Egerton player Megan Fairclough, they moved four points clear at the top of the table despite losing their unbeaten record at the weekend when Bolton-based Shachi Pai and Nalisha Patel were also in the side.

Having beaten the only other unbeaten side, Warwickshire, in the first game of a double header in a thrilling finish, they then narrowly lost to Sussex, who then went on to defeat Warwickshire.

Fairclough led from the front against Warwickshire when, with the home side on 106-4 chasing 120 with four overs to spare, she produced a brilliant run out to dismiss their key batsman.

Kate Cross followed up with a wicket then Fairclough and Rachel Dickinson each grabbed two wickets in an over to snatch a remarkable one-run victory.

Despite Fairclough taking another three wickets in the second game Sussex held on to win by 12 runs and take the competition to the final round of matches.
