PHIL Parkinson has signed a new contract at Wanderers – and will celebrate by making a 500-mile round trip to Millwall!

There was no Champagne toast for the diligent Whites boss as he penned a one-year rolling deal at the Macron this afternoon – and he set straight off on the road with chief scout Tim Breacker to suss out Saturday’s opponents, who take on Stevenage in the Carabao Cup tonight.

Parkinson will take his side to Crewe tomorrow in the same competition and is looking forward to the challenge of keeping Wanderers competitive in the Championship.

“I’m pleased to sign the contract and really looking forward to working exceptionally hard to try and establish us as a Championship club,” he said.

“It’s all part and parcel of the job. It’s about progression on and off the pitch and I truly believe me and the staff can push on from what we have done thus far.”

Parkinson’s trusted backroom - Steve Parkin, Matt Barrass and Lee Butler – are also part of the new agreement and the manager was quick to acknowledge their role in the club’s success over the last 12 months.

“We needed stability last summer,” he said. “And I think the fact we came over from Bradford and everyone integrated so successfully with the good people who were already here was very, very important.

“There’s a team behind the team here. And if we’re going to get where we want to be this season everyone has got to do their bit.”
