PHIL Parkinson is hoping to get some of his rising stars out on loan to avoid them becoming ‘stranded’ in development squad football.

The Wanderers boss is looking to cut through some of the complex EFL red tape currently surrounding the club to give players like Jeff King and Alex Perry some senior experience.

First year professionals like King, Perry, Jake Turner and Conor Hall are unable to play for the senior squad without counting towards the embargo quota of 23.

Parkinson could not name them in the squad to face Crewe in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night but while the EFL have given a firm ‘no’ on allowing them to play first team football – he is looking to convince them to sanction a loan elsewhere to aid their development.

The Wanderers boss will sit down this week with Under-23s boss David Lee to sort out a plan and is also looking to secure contracts for ‘two or three’ players at development squad level.

“We’ve got to be careful with, and fair to our younger players,” he told The Bolton News.

“We had that situation last year where we had them on non-first team contracts but equally they weren’t allowed to be loaned out either.

“That is something we need to speak to the Football League about. I am sure they don’t want to see the progress of young players blocked.

“I really think you have to be fair to them and get them out on loan, which we did with a couple last year.”

Wanderers are able to play academy scholars and gave a start to Jack Earing at Crewe in midweek, with Harry Brockbank making the bench.

Parkinson does hold out some hope the younger players will benefit from skipping the queue.

“Third year scholars can come into the equation for us and we’d prepared by taking them away to Scotland with us,” he said.

“I think it’s slightly unfortunate for the lads a little bit older than them, but that is the way it is.

“Someone is going to get their opportunity, probably ahead of time, and one of them might take it.”

Meanwhile, it is understood Wanderers have received enquiries to take Chris Taylor on loan.

The former Oldham Athletic and Blackburn Rovers midfielder had to sit out against Crewe but could be loaned out to free up space in the first team squad.
