YOUNG Harrier Lewis Wilkes won the annual Fielden Cup race ahead of county team-mate Robert Seddon as youth prevailed in the longstanding Horwich club race.

The under-17s runner showed the kind of form that has earned him Greater Manchester vests to cross the line first, with Seddon finishing second, as they left senior club members trailing in their wake.

First lady home was Linda Webb in 10th place, continuing the steady improvement she has made since joining the club this year.

But age is no barrier for several Harriers and yet again Graham Schofield demonstrated this by comfortably winning the M60 category at successive fell races run under the auspices of the British Open Fell Running Association, while Paul Muller continues to pile on the top-10 overall results – this time at the Blackpool Airshow 10k race where he too comfortably won the M60 category.

Two of Horwich’s Irish internationals took part in the Irish National half marathon in Dublin.

James Kevan is having a great season and this week was sixth, running for his Irish club Clonliffe Harriers who lifted the team prize as well.

Ian Conroy, also having a fine season, was running in the Raheny Shamrock AC vest and was fourth in the M35 category in a time which would have given him 11th place in the overall men’s results.

Welcome returns from injury were made in the Leigh Community 10k race where both Geoff Leech and Julie Williamson, having recently done a lot of cross training on the bikes, were steady finishers looking to build form again.

In parkrun it almost goes without saying, such is their consistency, that Lukas Siska and Richard Howarth were first home at Haigh Woodland and Cuerden Valley respectively.

There were also two female first places with u14s' Georgia Heath achieving a 76 per cent age grading at Bolton and Lindsey Brindle at Haigh Woodland getting a 78 per cent age grading.

Paul Muller, who in finishing second at Lytham Hall achieved a magnificent 91 per cent age grading, achieved probably the best ever Horwich age-graded result at parkrun.

Meanwhile starting for the first time in parkrun at the junior race at Queens Park, 10-year-old Aleksander Clayden was fourth.
