THE Bolton at Home Sunday League prepares for its 51st season later this month and to celebrate the league's half-century a representative side took on the best of the Oldham Sunday League, which also reached 50 this year.

The Bolton entertained Oldham in a commemorative match played at Radcliffe FC's Neuven Stadium and it was the Oldham side coming out of a competitive match, played in a good spirit, with a 3-1 victory.

Bolton took the lead within two minutes of the game gone, with an excellent individual goal from Gareth Colquitt. He picked the ball up just outside the penalty area and slipped past his defender before rounding Oldham goalkeeper Lewis Murphy and slotting the ball into the net.

This took Oldham by surprise but they soon settled down and started to dominate the match. With 25 minutes on the clock man-of-the-match Callum Franklyn found himself on the right-hand side of the area and unleashed a superb shot into the corner of the net, giving the Bolton keeper Michael Entwhistle no chance.

The teams went in level at half time though it was Oldham who could count themselves unlucky not to be going in leading, such was their dominance of possession.

However, it did not take long for them to edge ahead in the second half as, within a minute of the game restarting, Kane Radcliffe found himself with only the keeper to beat and he capitalised on the chance to give Oldham a 2-1 lead.

Now the Bolton XI sparked into life and, thanks to Jason Perry's dominant performance in midfield, Bolton went for all-out attack.

Unfortunately, as they pushed for an equaliser it left gaps at the back and in the 80th minute Franklyn collected the ball on the half way line with only Bolton centre-half Rhys Jones to beat. After getting past Jones he rounded the helpless Entwhistle and completed the scoring by slotting into an empty net to make the score 3-1.

Although Bolton never gave up and went close with a couple of long-range shots from Perry, but they could not get the breakthrough and Oldham saw out the 3-1 win and received the commemorative trophy from the mayor of Bolton, Roger Hayes.
