HORWICH'S Rob Jackson took time out of his honeymoon in New York to finish first in the M50 age category and 35th overall at a New York Road Runners event in Central Park – an 8k road race and event celebrating the attractions of France.

Jackson was one of three GB runners in the top 50 out of 4,828 runners and he and new wife Michelle had the $75 age-category prize to spend after the race.

Elsewhere, on the road in Ireland, Cian Healy was fifth overall in the Carlow 5k race and the first under-18 home, again proudly wearing the Horwich vest as a young ambassador for the club.

Nearer home the biggest result for a Harrier this week was Michael Cayton demonstrating his return to fitness with a 15-minute 5k for second place at the competitive Sale Sizzler race – the fourth in the series this year.

Paul Muller made the trip across the Pennines to Wharfedale where he was third overall in the Burnsall 10-mile road race, winning the V60 category by more than 11 minutes.

It was the fourth and last leg of the club’s Jubilee and Street series.

In the Jubilee race, Ben Fish won on the night but it was his Blackburn team-mate Christopher Davies who took the series men’s title.

For the ladies, Liz Procter, of Bolton, was triumphant on the night and Helen Lawrenson of Wesham took the series prize. Ethan Isaacs had already secured the Street series' first prize for u11s, pipping Ethan Davies, of Leigh, by two points.

First series place for the u9s was Horwich’s Harrison Stokes, while first u11s' girl on the night was Blythe Cordwell, of Chorley, who also took the series prize, with Horwich’s Emma Bradley only two points behind in the series.

Fern O’Brien was Horwich’s first u9s' girl in the series.

In the u15s' series Lewis Wilkes won the title without running the final race.

Matthew Flatters, in second place, finished as first u13 in the series and won on the night, having the previous evening run a personal best at the Trafford Grand Prix in the 800m.

Also appearing at Longford Park in the Grand Prix at 800m, Ella Pendlebury set a new personal best, narrowly beaten by Horwich’s newest young athlete, Georgia Heath, who joins the club from Sale Harriers.

Georgia signed off for Sale with a new PB.

The next evening in the Street race Ella and Georgia were split in the series by Isabella Merritt, but the overall series winner was Grace Tobin from Southport Waterloo.

In parkrun it was three of Horwich’s juniors who featured most strongly in the results.

At Llyn Llech Owain in Wales, Luke Brindle finished second overall in 19mins 22secs, while nearer to home at Haigh Woodland, Lewis Wilkes was second overall (18:45) and Eva Baldwin was third female finisher (21:22).

Club membership secretary Andrew Storey also completed his 100th parkrun at Haigh.
