PHIL Parkinson paid tribute to the club’s prize guys this week, insisting the awards were deserved recognition for their efforts.

David Wheater scooped the Leesa North West Football Awards League One player-of-the-year while Wanderers’ community trust team won the Community Initiative of the Year prize for their ‘Positive Chances’ scheme. And the manager says both were worthy recipients.

“I’m very pleased for David,” he said. “I feel it was well deserved, with the season he had and the way he started this season as well.

“Everybody knows what we think of him as a character and a player and he deservedly got the accolade.

“The Football in the Community also picked up an award, which they were delighted with. A lot of good work goes on behind the scenes at football clubs and it was great for them to go and pick up and award, they were really pleased and so were we for them.
