CLUB chairman Rob Short led Burnden’s contingent home at the David Staff Memorial Fell Race in Darwen.

Rob completed the 6K course up to Darwen Tower and back to Sunnyhurst Wood with 305 metres of climb in 33mins 18secs, finishing sixth overall and second senior, 18 seconds ahead of George Butler, who was ninth overall and third senior in 33:36. Keith Thomas was third M60 in 36:29.

Paula Pilling was second female finisher overall and first Burnden member to finish the ladies' race, coming home second F40 in 39:31.

Anne Ferguson was second F50 in 40:25 and Louise Fox was third F40 in 48:04.

Other results: Marcus Taylor (34:55), Paul Duke (35:09), Mark Jackson (37:37), Mark Butler (41:18), Don Nichol (45:29), Emma Walker (50:27), Sally Cottrill (52:47).

Three members took part in the City of Salford 5.25-Mile Ladies' Race at Swinton, with Kerry Stevenson first to finish in a time of 50:46. Tracey Lowe was next in 51:01 followed by Dawn Evans in 55:36.

Jackie Oakes was the fastest member to tackle the Wesham 10K, covering the course in 48:37.

Jeff Pendlebury was next in 52:38, followed by Debra Hennessey (58:42) and Gillian McGowan (1:13:10).

Andy and Shirley Staveley travelled to Benidorm for the Spanish resort’s 10K event.

Shirley crossed the line in 46:34 and Andy recorded a time of 1:02:23.
