HARRIER John Knowles’ 14th placed-finish in the Red rose Cross Country finale at Rossendale saw him end second in the veteran’s series and seventh overall in the open men’s.

Meanwhile, Rachel Bailey’s 24th saw her finish third in the under-20 series’ standing and 20th overall.

Their podium spots meant they join Jonny Kay and Katie Oakley, who did not race but had already clinched the series' first and third spots respectively.

Bolton’s men also took the series’ team runners-up spot.

For the juniors, there were multiple series counters (those who have completed at least three of the four races) with top-10 positions taken by Harvey Kenny (u11), Laurence Britton (u13) and Lewis Aldred (u17), while u11s runner Scarlett Thompson’s 13th was close.

Elsewhere, Karl Darcy’s 33mins 32secs saw him finish sixth out of the 416-strong field at the Manchester Area Cross Country League fixture at the University playing fields.

The Myerscough 10M from Bilsborrow, near Preston, saw Tommy Harrison finish second in 54:02.

Meanwhile, in the 315 Lancaster Half Marathon, Matthew Walker clocked 1:18:23 for fifth, while Simon Dally’s 1:19:57 was eighth.
