BIG Sam has come to Wanderers’ aid by supplying them with one of Goodison Park’s secret weapons.

Phil Parkinson revealed that a call to the Everton boss this week led to a deal for hot-shot midfielder Harry Charsley for the rest of the season.

Chief scout Tim Breacker had been tracking the 21-year-old’s progress in the Goodison Park development squad this season but when West Ham put the brakes on Josh Cullen returning to the Macron Stadium on loan – it was with Allardyce’s blessing that Charsley’s move was rushed through in time to face Brentford this afternoon.

“Tim has been speaking with Steve Walsh [Everton’s director of football] and Steve [Parkin] put a call into Big Sam earlier this week,” Parkinson explained. “They have been absolutely great with us.

“I think they’ll look at how Antonee Robinson has fared with us so far in the Championship and it will be key. It’s great to have that kind of relationship with Everton because they are producing some very good players.”

Charsley made his senior debut against Apollon Limassol in the Europa League and has represented the Republic of Ireland at Under-21 level 14 times.

He was Everton’s top scorer as they won the Premier League 2 title in 2016/17, scoring seven goals in 22 appearances and can play as a winger or in behind a main striker. It is understood he will be plunged straight into action at Brentford today.

Parkinson is optimistic that the youngster can make the same impact as his club-mate Robinson, who recently signed on to stay at the Macron for the second half of the season after a successful start.

“I think with the Everton lads – Keiran Dowell at Forest, Joe Williams at Barnsley, Robinson with us, they get the right disciplines instilled in them at Under-23 level where they play almost as a league team,” he explained. “You know the lads who come in have a good understanding of what is required to win games.

“As with any new signing you never quite know how they are going to adapt when they come in.

“But he’s got a great pedigree, he’s a willing runner and he’s got a great work ethic as well.”
