JEFF King saw red as Wanderers’ Under-23s were knocked off their perch at the top of the table at Hull City.

David Lee’s side had gone 11 games unbeaten before a 3-0 reverse at North Ferriby’s EON Visual Media Stadium, and now trail Sheffield Wednesday in second on goal difference.

Greg Olley opened the scoring for the Tigers on 28 minutes with a superb effort curled into the top corner past Jake Turner from the edge of the penalty box.

And just a few minutes later the Whites’ task of getting back into the game was made more difficult as King received a straight red card for a heavy challenge on Adam Curry.

Turner kept the score at 1-0 with a smart save from Brandon Fleming but needed Liam Edwards to bail him out of danger just after the restart when he spilled Tyler Hamilton’s shot with Tom Powell looking to pounce.

Wanderers continued to defend bravely – but Will Annan produced another thunderbolt to make it two on 54 minutes to put the game beyond reach.

Connor Hall was denied by a smart Callum Burton save but the one way traffic soon resumed, Turner making two excellent saves to keep out Fleming’s free-kick and a header from Robbie McKenzie.

Powell finally made it three, finishing well from Olley’s cross, allowing the Tigers to avenge their six-goal mauling earlier in the campaign.
