THIS week's archive photograph is a picture unearthed in The Bolton News vaults of Bolton Lads Club Under-16s football team from December 1988.

The picture shows the team sporting their new tracksuits which the caption says they provided themselves due to a lack of a sponsor.

Did you play for the Bolton Boys Federation side?

Or do you recognise anyone in the line-up?

Email david.pye@nqnw.co.uk with any recollections.

THE second picture was published in the sporting nostalgia section on February 15 and features the Crompton Fold County Primary School team from 1955.

It was submitted by Philip Beales, who played for the team and wondered if it would trigger any memories among readers.

Geoff Simister got in touch and said: "What a surprise nostalgia photo.

"I was the captain of this brilliant team and Philip has most of the names correct.

"My friend Alan Fox, second from the left on the back row, tells a good story about winning the ball for me, you could tackle in those days, and he could!

"Passing it on to me to do my fancy stuff, before laying it off to Arthur Potter (next to me) to score most of our goals!

"Alan Holstead is next to Alan Fox and it's Ronny Cole (sixth left).

"Ken Wright, Chorley player/manager/president was in our team, but left our school halfway through the year and went to Red Lane School.

"He was a super footballer but we still managed to win all our games even without him.

"Lastly, Mr Sewell and Mr Richardson were full of encouragement. No first names in those days note.

"Ken Sewell lived in Harwood where I still live. In later life I would see 'sir' at the golf club or the Grey Mare Pub, but felt awkward calling him Ken.

"From then on he was always affectionately named 'Sir Ken' when we met – I think he liked it!

"Thank you for printing the photo, wonderful memories."

Meanwhile, Howard Sharples wrote: "I went to Crompton Fold school.

"My mum worked at Warburtons bakery with Philip Beales and I went to Crompton Fold school with Philip's brother Richard Beales.

"We used to play football together and I just wondered how Richard was.

"We were born on the same day within 10 minutes of each other in the same maternity hospital.

"I went on to be captain of the football team."

Gary Ellis also got in touch and added: "Your little piece on Crompton Fold School didn't fall on entirely deaf ears.

"I remember playing against them for Lever Edge Lane in1955/56 and I also recall being disappointed that we lost, for the only time that season.

"Some of the faces on the photo bring back memories, especially Dave Makinson with whom I later became friends at Hayward Grammar.

"I believe that Dave, sadly, is no longer with us but I particularly remember him coming with me to Goodison Park on Christmas Day 1957 to watch the Wanderers.

"It was the first time he had been to an away match (I'd been to quite a few by then) and I do remember his mum being quite anxious.

"Crowds weren't segregated in those days and it was quite intimidating between the railway station and the ground and behind the goal at Goodison where we stood. But we returned safely enough and the Wanderers returned with a hard-won point.

"I have a photo of the Lever Edge Lane team taken in 1955/56, if I can just lay my hands on it.

"We moved house recently and there are still a few things unpacked or unfound.

"Living in Lancaster, I now travel to matches on the Lancaster Whites bus with my son and two youngest grandchildren. "The youngest, James, was a mascot at the recent televised Bristol City match."
