SEVERAL Harriers took part in the Trotters 5 road race with Neil Holding the club's top finisher in the second race in the Central Lancs Grand Prix.

In an unusually competitive V55 category Holding had to be content with third place in the age category, although he had finished first V55 at the Lancaster 5k the previous day.

Kimberley Chadderton had a great run to finish as the fourth placed female at the Trotters 5, while Lewis Wilkes had to settle for third for the under-20s despite a fine 24th place overall.

It was left to Tony Hesketh at V65 and Peter Heneghan at V70 to grab the category honours for the Harriers at the Smithills-based race.

The previous day, the Wilkinson sisters flew the club’s flag in the Mid Lancs cross country at Ulverston, both running their first full season of cross country at u11.

Charlotte achieved an impressive eighth place in the series of five races in a strong age category in which 56 girls achieved a series result.

On the fells it was left to two vets to put any Harriers results on the table.

Mick Green ran the testing Stan Bradshaw Round on Pendle Hill, while David Barnes achieved a series result by running at Cunswick – the eighth round in the Kendal Winter League.

He now has to wait for the completion of the last three rounds to see if he can retain a top-three series place in the V60 category.

Ian Hamer ran the Cambridge half marathon and finished inside the top 20 per cent of runners in a field of more than 7,000.

Geoff Leech was the only parkrunner this week. Not only did he successfully predict that the Preston parkrun would survive the freeze, he also went and ran it for a new personal best time at the course.
