A MUCH-delayed BSF Over-35s Football League Sam Ashworth Trophy third-round match was completed on Sunday when Salford Victoria beat Irlam Steel.

Victoria, who are second in Division One, reached the semi-finals with a 5-1 away win in which Tony Weall scored a hat-trick and Allan Houghton and Mark Bailey got their other goals.

Two Division Two Cup quarter-finals were one-sided affairs. Leaders Radcliffe Old Boys A beat bottom side Hindley Town 4-0 at home. Ian Shoreman scored a hat-trick with the other an own goal.

Third-placed Dobbies A hammered Heaton Vets 14-0 away. Lee Smith, Marvin Browne and Anthony Healey all scored hat-tricks and Carl Lomax got two.

In Division One, unbeaten leaders Barr Hill dropped points when they drew 1-1 at fifth-placed Bar Lane Bowling Club. Mark Sloan scored for the home side, but an own goal levelled the scores.

Tavern Vets and BLGC shared the points in a 4-4 draw. Richard McCloughlin scored a double for Tavern and John Coogan and Colin Hadfield got one each. A Wez Gallagher hat-trick and Jimmy Reynolds earned a point for BLGC.

Three of the top four in Division Three had victories, Dobbies B moving into second place above Home Guard Failsworth by beating them 4-1, thanks to two Dave Cosgrave goals and one each by Mark Longshaw and Mark Lonsdale.

They are just one point behind leaders Horwich St Mary’s Victoria who narrowly won at home against Vulcan Vets. Sammy Cardwell (two), and Daniel and Kristopher Arkwright scored for the home side and Mark Dougill, Mark Morris and Dan Wright were on target for Vulcan.

Four Division Four games produced 26 goals. Leaders Bolton Wyresdale thrashed bottom side Bury Seniors 8-0. Aaron McCarthy scored a hat-trick while Rob Tulley, Jay Knowles, Paul Gibson, Mark Grundy and Gaz French contributed one apiece.

After a dismal run, Deans Youth and Ladies FC have recently started scoring and earned a point in a home draw with Ainsworth B.

Andy Horrocks and Martin Smedley scored, but they were pegged back by Danny Coyle and Chris Hayes strikes for Ainsworth.

They met in a Divisional Cup game on Wednesday and Deans won 1-0.

Second-placed Radcliffe Old Boys B dropped points as they drew 4-4 at PF Bury for whom John Smith (two), Noel Coleman and Tony Dunn scored, but that was an improvement on their Divisional Cup game on Wednesday when PF Bury won 7-5.

Heaton Casuals failed to make up ground on Radcliffe by drawing at home to Atherton Town with Chris Sutcliffe, Clint Hibbert and Tony McCormack scoring for Heaton and Peter Higgins (two) and Craig Conway levelling for Atherton.
