LOSTOCK'S Mary White and Sally McCoy enjoyed age-group success at the Horwich Triathlon despite the sweltering temperatures.

Veteran White was first in her age group with an overall time of 2hrs 35mins, comprising a swim time of 12:51, a bike ride of 1:29:37 and a run of 52:34.

Having lost the whole of the 2017 to injury, McCoy turned in a storming effort to finish third in her age group, posting a swim time of 12:57, a bike split of 1:26:35 and a punishing 49:37 run for a combined time of 2:29:08.

Paul Walton was the quickest of the Lostock competitors, finishing in 2:27:16 with swim, bike and run times respectively of 9:35, 1:25:41 and 52:00, while Alan Mather finished in 2:49:16 with times for his three disciplines of 12:58, 1:38:00 and 57:57.

The Lake District at Staverley and the Kent valley proved no cooler for Donna Kelsall at the Lakeland Trails Staverley 10k race, where she continued her first season of competitive racing in the green of Lostock by turning in a strong time of 1:18:39.

Mark Shuttleworth also felt the heat at the Wray Caton Moor fell race.
