England’s World Cup squad announcement had the country talking on Wednesday afternoon – and not just because of the players selected by manager Gareth Southgate.

Instead of simply publishing a list of names, the 23-man Three Lions group that will travel to Russia was revealed in a video by young fans from across the country.

Heading to the home towns of those receiving call-ups, as well as filming at Wembley, a collection of teenagers announced which players had made the cut.

The near-two-minute video involves young players from local clubs and has been watched millions of times on Twitter and amassed thousands of ‘likes’ in the process.

Southgate included the likes of Trent Alexander-Arnold and Fabian Delph in his squad, while the likes of Jack Wilshere and Joe Hart were left out.

The England boss will speak to the media on Thursday to discuss his selections ahead of the squad meeting up next week.
