TEAMS from more than 50 local primary schools flooded the pitches at Bolton School to take part in its two annual football festivals.
The non-competitive Year 3/4 event took place on a Tuesday and was followed by the Year 5/6 tournaments two days later with the emphasis on good sportsmanship, based on the English Schools' Football Association's code of conduct.
A total of 70 teams took part in friendly six-a-side matches for the younger age group in which each team played all the others in their group on a round-robin basis with 15 games taking place simultaneously.
The Year 5/6 event was even larger, with 85 teams taking part and 17 pitches in use.
The tournament was split into A team, B team and girls’ competitions.
Markland Hill won the A team title for the second year running, beating Lostock 3-1 in the final.
In semi-finals, Markland Hill beat Prestolee 4-0 and Lostock defeated St James’, of Daisy Hill, on sudden-death penalties after the game ended 0-0.
The final of the girls’ competition also went to sudden-death penalties in which St Saviour beat Markland Hill after this game, too, ended goalless in normal time.
Ladybridge lifted the B Team trophy, beating St Michael’s C of E 6-3 in the final.
