BURNDEN scored three victories at the Hendersons End Fell Race.

Paula Pilling was second in the women’s race and first F35 in 1hr 7mins 11secs, Tony Wall first M60 a few minutes later in 1:11:42 and Anne Ferguson was first F55 with her time of 1:18:47.

Steve Nolan was the first club member to finish, second M50, in 1:02:28, followed by Marcus Taylor in 1:05:17. Keith Thomas was second M60 in 1:12:03.

Other results: Ged Turner (1:15:38), Steven Bate (1:15:41), Paul Duke (1:19:13), Don Taylor (1:23:13), Tony Woodiwiss (1:23:19), Sarah Woodiwiss (1:34:00), Phil Glassbrook (1:34:00), Jackie Oakes (1:34:00), Sally Cottrill (1:36:00), Emma Walker (1:36:50), Nadia Raza (1:38:06), Louise Wall (1:44:16).

Louise Fox and David Morrison were also on fell race duty, covering the tough 10k Knowl Hill course with more than 1,200 feet of climb. Fox finished in 1:40:51 with Morrison right behind her in 1:40:53.

Seven members took part in the Edgworth 10k, with Sarah Watton first home, coming second in the women’s race and second FS with her time of 49:06.

Vicki Hamer was seventh in the women’s race in 54:54 and Jenna Leeks made it three members in the top 20 with her time of 60:00 exactly.

Paul Drew was the only male Burndener to tackle the event, finishing in a time of 57:50. Jackie Spiby crossed the line in 62:28, followed by Julie Riddle in 65:50 and Joanne Darby in 71:00.

Anne Ferguson also picked up the F60 prize at the second of the Astley Park series with her time of 34:15. Lyndsay Darbyshire was second F50 in 33:42 and Colm O’Brien finished in 34:19.

The Race the Train event between Bury and Rawtenstall attracted five members, with Marcus Taylor third V45 in 1:19:13.

Don Nichol was fourth V60 in 1:42:07, followed closely by Jackie Oakes, third F45 in 1:44:42.

Kerry Stevenson posted a time of 1:56:44 with Tracey Lowe completing the Burnden representation in 2:03:40.

In Staffordshire, Alec Cottrill conquered his first Ironman 70.3 event in great style.

A 52:31 1.2-mile swim in Chasewater reservoir near Burntwood was followed by a time 3:34:39 over the 56-mile bike course before a half marathon of 2:25:18 gave him a total time of 7:12:48.

Trevor Fishwick and Lorraine Halwood chose to test themselves over the same distances at the Epicman event in Lancaster.

Fishwick came out of the water in 51:33 and completed the bike course in 4:03:59 and ran the 13.1 miles in 2:43:24, giving him a total time of 7:49:05.

Halwood’s times of 46:45 for the swim, 5:15:18 for the bike ride and 2:33:54 gave her an overall time of 8:46:32.

Jane Forrest scored an age-group win at the legendary Man v Horse challenge at Llanwrtyd Wells in mid-Wales. She was first F55 in a time of 4:29:37.

Andy Staveley was the fastest on the day in 3:45:06, closely followed by Colin Rigby who completed the arduous 22-mile course in 3:50:52.

Keith Thomas crossed the line in 4:13:28 followed by Shirley Staveley in 4:29:38, Christophe Menand in 4:31:56 and Colm O’Brien in 5:01:24.

Team Burnden Road Runners was the pick of those who chose to run the course as a relay and they finished in 3:45:12.

Paul Johnson completed the Tatton Park 10k in a time of 49:15.

Meanwhile, Lee and Kirsty White joined the DEFRA Environment Agency team for the Welsh Castles Relay – a mammoth event over two days covering 200 miles in total.

Kirsty White ran from Penygroes to Criccieth – a distance of 10.7 miles – in 1:16:42, while Lee White covered the route from Dinas Mawddwy to Foel (10.8 miles) in 1:13:34 just over 11 minutes behind the stage winner. Both runs were the fastest runs in the team category in their respective stages.
