TAYLER-Jay Heyes is looking forward to resuming his career with Walkden after rejoining them from Horwich this week.

The opening batsman is available to make his second debut for the Bolton League Premiership leaders tonight against Little Lever in the BCL T20 competition after his return was completed on Wednesday.

His move to Horwich – who are currently second in the Premiership – was made ahead of the current season.

It did not work out as well as either side had hoped with Heyes seeing himself as an opening batsman and Horwich preferring to use him a little further down the order due to the array of quality high-order batsmen they have at their disposal.

The situation ultimately led to the player looking to continue his career elsewhere and Walkden were happy to have him back.

"Unfortunately for me I signed as an opener and due to circumstances changing I was dropped down to three and I struggled to adjust," he said of his time at Horwich.

"It just wasn't meant to be I suppose.

"Horwich was a great club and I loved my time there.

"I've got nothing bad to say, it is a club where everyone is behind you. It is run by great people and supported by great people, and they have a group of players who are all behind one another on and off the pitch.

"I spoke with Jono (captain Jonathan Fowler) at Walkden where I was made welcome back, so I now look to help lead from the front with the bat, although I am only able to play in the league as I am deemed cup-tied for the Peter Stafford Trophy so I will miss out on two weekends of cricket which is a shame."

He rejoins a team who are flying in the Premiership as they go in search of their first league title for 10 years.

After tonight's home game against Little Lever in the BCL T20 competition, they take on Farnworth in the Premiership tomorrow, also at the Oval.

The visiting reigning champions are one of many realistic contenders for this year's hotly-contested title.

Walkden go into the match with seven wins and one defeat from their opening eight games behind them and six points clear at the top, 11 ahead of Farnworth.

But Heyes knows things can change very quickly and is just focusing on playing his part in helping his new team continue their impressive start to the season.

"It's a long season with every game being tough, so I'm just looking to take each game as it comes and hopefully help Walkden from the front," he said.

Horwich will be looking to keep the pressure on by trying to repeat last Sunday's Hamer Cup victory at Farnworth Social Circle with another win at Piggott Park tomorrow.

Kearsley, who are one point behind Horwich, have a home game against bottom club Atherton.

The big game in the Association division title race is at Little Lever where the third-placed hosts welcome leaders Astley Bridge who are just one point above them going into the game.

Adlington, who are level on points with the Victory Road men, will be a mile away from that game at Darcy Lever.
