BOLTON Olympic Wrestling Club youngsters proved real fighting forces at the Under-12s Derbyshire Open Wrestling Championships.

The local athletes brought back as many medals as they took members with seven gold, four silver and two bronze.

BOWC described the haul as a "tremendous success" at a competition held in Matlock which is aimed at developing younger athletes in the sport.

Gold was won by Brooke Markland, Grace Costello, Harry Meadows, Arin Sekirden, Tommy Costello, Alfie Gallagher, Megan Kipling and Cameron Leader.

Silver Medallists were Ruby Leader, Layla Szymanski, Megan Kipling, and Jack Costello, and bronze winners were Bailey Bennett and Mia Kipling.

Coach Craig Pilling, a 2014 Commonwealth Games bronze medallist, said: “Our young wrestlers displayed some great skills, determination and a positive attitude and I am very proud of their achievements.

"Hopefully this will be a stepping stone for them as they grow and develop in our sport, and I am certain we have some future national champions in the making.”
