JACK Hobbs might well have played his way into a contract offer at Wanderers.

The 29-year-old centre-back has impressed Bolton’s coaching staff since accepting the invite of a trial a fortnight ago, and played 30 minutes of Saturday’s 2-1 win at Halifax.

Free agent, Hobbs, who last played for Nottingham Forest, could feature again today in a behind-closed-doors friendly against Morecambe.

“I told Jack I’d like him to come up to Scotland for a week and he did, worked really hard in training to show us where he is at,” said Parkinson, who also poured cold water on reports ex-West Brom keeper Boaz Myhill was in talks about a move to the Macron.

“He’s a good character. Even in that half an hour against Halifax you could see he was trying to organise and that’s a good sign.

“He’s one of a number of players we’re looking at.”

Parkinson will take a closer look at a couple of trialists over the next few days in the hope of adding some quality to his squad.

“A couple of others will come in for some training this week,” he said. “In the past I’ve looked at players at close quarters and they’ve earned contracts, it’s what it’s all about at this stage of the game.”
