WANDERERS remain in the hunt for Bradford City striker Charlie Wyke despite his escalating price tag, The Bolton News understands.

Sunderland have aggressively chased the 25-year-old Bantams front man in recent weeks and seen two bids - the highest of which is thought to be £600,000 - rejected by the Yorkshire club.

Black Cats boss Jack Ross created his own headlines on Tuesday night by saying he is in a rush to resolve the situation, adding that his pursuit of Wyke was “not straightforward”.

Bolton’s interest has remained somewhat under the radar and despite having their own distractions in the last fortnight, it is understood they remain in a position to bid if the deal is right.

Parkinson has ear-marked the brave number nine as the ideal man to spearhead his attack in the Championship and both Wanderers and Sunderland had eyes on Tuesday night’s friendly against Sheffield United.

Wyke’s night ended early when he tweaked his knee and was forced off the field but the injury is not thought to be a serious one.

The player was also involved in a heated exchange with a Bradford fan on social media when it was suggested he had limped off to protect the chances of a move elsewhere.

Wanderers have been waiting in the wings since the end of last season for the former Carlisle striker, who has scored 41 goals in his last two seasons and were initially quoted £1million when they enquired about him in May.
