LOSTOCK'S Mark Liptrot overcame illness and the hot conditions to complete the tough Wasdale Horseshoe fell race.

After his recent racing in Snowdonia, Liptrot returned to the more familiar fells of the Lake District and one of the toughest Lakeland races.

The race, which starts and finishes at the head of Wast Water, takes competitors to the summits of Seatallan, Pillar, Great Gable, Esk Hause and Scafell Pike over a distance of 34k and with 2,750m of ascent.

Despite debilitating stomach cramp and the blistering heat, Liptrot completed the brutal race in 6hrs 11mins.

Lostock AC return to a fuller calendar of racing this week with the final Jubilee race of the summer.
