PHIL Parkinson reckons new loan signing Yanic Wildschut could put Wanderers on the fast-track to recovery.

Bolton turned heads in the Championship yesterday as they secured the pacey Norwich City winger on a season-long loan ahead of Wigan and Ipswich.

It has been an uncertain summer at the Macron as the player pay dispute threatened to undo last term’s hard work on and off the field.

But just days after the situation was resolved, the arrival of Wildschut – a player signed just last year at Carrow Road for £7million from Wigan - paints a very different picture of the Championship campaign to come, argues Parkinson.

“It has been a bit frustrating because there has been a negativity lingering around the club which wasn’t entirely warranted,” he told The Bolton News. “There are clubs in this division who are struggling financially, or with Financial Fair Play, and we’re not one of them!

“Maybe what happened before has crept in a little bit, so the situation felt worse than it was in the bigger picture?

“The perception people have had of the club has not been right, in my opinion, because we have been working hard to get players in. Of course you have to be realistic. I don’t think we’ll be spending millions. But I’m working really, really hard to make sure the players we bring in improve us, and I think Yanic will do just that.”

Wildschut’s move to Norwich from Wigan inn January 2017 did not work out as planned and he was loaned out to Cardiff City 12 months later after playing just 25 games.

He featured in the Bluebirds’ promotion push last season, however, and adds an extra dimension to the Wanderers’ attack, says his new boss.

“He’s one of the quickest players I have ever seen,” Parkinson said of Wildschut. “I’m really pleased with this one. I think it does send a statement out to the other clubs in this division.

“We have been looking for real pace in the team and he certainly brings that.”
