HIGH-KICKING Ibrahim Janjua is making great strides in his bid to one day be a world champion.

The six-year-old, known as 'Ibby' has started to fulfil his potential since joining the North West Warriors club with a host of awards in the last few months.

Ibby only took up the sport at the age of five but has already struck gold and silver in national and international competitions.

Last month's World Martial Arts Organisation European Championships saw the Bolton boy bring back a silver medal to add to the gold and silvers he won at the Lordswood Combat Tri Series in Birmingham.

There was also a double gold when Ibby competed in the G-Force Open International Martial Arts Series, with a World Martial Arts Heroes award for good measure.

Ibby has designs on taking a senior world title one day and, given his clear potential, his mum Shazia is backing her talented youngster to go all the way.

"Martial arts gives him self-defence, self-discipline and self-confidence and this has been reflected not just in his behaviour in the dojo but also in school as he got 12 A grades and one B in his year one report," she said.

Ibby and his North West Warriors clubmates will be appearing in this week's Sport in the Square three-day event, and tomorrow, Wednesday and Thursday members will be performing drills and offering free one-week training passes to anyone who may be looking to try their hand – and feet – at the sport.

If you cannot make it to Sport in the Square in Victoria Square, pop into the dojo in Vale Street and ask for Paul Smith.
