BOLTON’S Golden Girls won the final match of the inter-league series to complete a come-from-behind victory against Bury.

Bolton had been 4-2 down but four wins in a row mean they were 6-4 winners at the end of the 10-match series.

Batting first in the over-60s match, Bury lost four batters in the first round of batting.

By the fifth round, only three batters remained and each of this trio kept the other two in until the eighth round when Anne Edyverne was put out at first base for 17 points.

The ninth round saw Janine Currie caught out for 18 which just left Val Pierce, who was out at den for 16 as they closed on 87.

Bolton also started poorly as they lost three batters the first time around.

Another four batters were lost a few rounds later and just four batters remained in at the fourth round.

Sue Russell was next out on her eighth visit to the batting square but not before she had added 13 points.

Sue Karim was put out at first base on her 11th bat, having scored 29 including three rounders.

This left just Jean Crowe and June Duckworth remaining and with 25 and 21 respectively, Bolton’s innings total of 109 meant they took a 22-run lead into the second innings.

Bury came back in to bat and fourth batter June English scored their first rounder.

She went on to score another two to be Bury’s highest scorer in the second innings with 32.

Joining her on double figures were Sally Dyer, who hit two rounders on her way to amassing 26 points, and Joyce Roscoe with 16.

An innings total of 118 took Bury to 205 and set Bolton a target of 98 runs.

That is not easy but they managed to retain all 11 players into the second round of batting.

After five rounds there were still eight players remaining and after seven rounds four remained. Again, Karim and Russell were among the high scorers with 31 and 20, respectively, and this time were joined by Ann Astley (22) and Jackie Wright (29).

An innings total of 162, including seven rounders, saw Bolton take the match 271-205.

In the league, two of Section A’s three leaders, Rupert and Little Lever XI, played out a brilliant game with just four points the difference, Rupert edging the win.

In Section J, a single point in 383 separated Entry-tech Security and Rivington Ladies, the former winning 192-191 at home.

This Friday sees the first of the cup finals as Hilltops XI take on Little Lever XI Juniors.

The game will take place at Farnworth Social Circle Cricket Club, Piggott Street, Farnworth, starting at 6.30pm.
