BURNDEN scored notable victories at the James Herriot Trail Race in Castle Bolton, Yorkshire.

Steve Nolan was the first member to complete the 14k course over moorland trails and paths. He came home 10th overall and second V50 in 61.85mins.

Paul Duke was next in 62.38, followed by Rob Short in 63.13 and Pete Hopley in 64.75.

Paula Pilling was the first member to cross the line in the women’s race, fourth overall and first F40 in 70.85.

Age-group wins also went to Gwen Kinloch, first F50 in 73.73, and Anne Ferguson, first F60 in 78.88.

The club’s fantastic success earned them top spot in the female team and the mixed team standings.

Mel Walker was second V70 in 85.50.

Nolan was also first of the Burnden stars to finish the 10k Lee Mill Fell Race in Bacup, a tough course involving 1,115 feet of climbing.

He was again first V55 and posted a time of 53:55 while Anne Ferguson was first L60 in 1:07:00.

Don Taylor was second V60 1:17:18 and Phil Glassbrook second V70 in 1:27:56.

Mark Jackson tested his endurance at the Leigh Track 6-Hour Challenge, and turned in a fantastic performance to finish third overall, completing 137 laps in 5:58:02.

Meanwhile on two wheels, Julie Riddle and Karen Taylor completed the Prudential Ride London 100-mile bike ride at the weekend, in appalling weather conditions.

They covered the daunting course from the centre of London out round Surrey’s countryside, finishing on The Mall in front of Buckingham Palace in 7:07:00.
