LUKE Murphy arrived on the eve of the Championship kick-off ready to make an immediate impact at Wanderers.

Just hours after severing ties at Leeds United the midfielder signed a two-year deal with Bolton to become Phil Parkinson’s ninth new arrival of the summer.

Murphy has several years of Championship experience with Leeds and Burton Albion – where he spent two spells on loan – and is hoping he can slot straight into the squad which travels to West Brom tomorrow.

“I’ve been at Leeds for five or six years now so to come to another really big club like Bolton, I’m privileged to be here,” he said yesterday. “I can’t wait to get started.

“I have played over 100 times for Leeds and then went out on loan to Burton.

“I haven’t got a bad word to say about them, they were fantastic with me, the manager, the fans and the players – they were doing so well with the resources they had and punching above their weight.

“Now I’m excited to get started and adding to what looks like a promising squad.”

Murphy was told early in the summer that he was not part of Marcelo Bielsa’s plans at Elland Road and was not even granted a squad number.

But the 28-year-old is not going to let that frustration dampen his enthusiasm at signing for Wanderers – who make a return to Leeds in the Carabao Cup a week on Tuesday.

“I’ve trained every day and played a couple of games for the Under-23s at Leeds,” he said. “That hasn’t been ideal but you have to make the best of a bad situation.

“I’ll be in tomorrow and it’ll be nice to be part of something again.”

Wanderers will take around 2,500 travelling fans to the Hawthorns tomorrow looking to kick-off their season with a win for the first time in seven years.

Their last victory on the opening day was a 4-0 thumping of Neil Warnock’s QPR in the Premier League on August 13, 2011.

Meanwhile, Wanderers’ Under-23s goalkeeper James Aspinall has been invited on a goalkeeping training camp with England next month.

First team keeper Ben Alnwick has praised the youngster for his recent development.

“You might not have heard of his at this time last year but his game really has come on,” he said.
