BOLTON Olympic Wrestling Club produced a stunning performance at the English Junior Wrestling Championships.

They brought back 15 medals from the event in Alfreton, Derbyshire, which attracts the top young athletes in the country.

Bolton's 18-strong team won seven gold medals, two silvers and six bronzes and also had three fourth-place finishes.

National champions were Grace Costello, Charlie Meadows, Megan Kipling, Cameron Leader, Lucy McGrath, Nathan Livesey and Máté Van Os.

Van Os is from Utrecht in Holland and was competing for Bolton Olympic who organised a trip for a team of their athletes to take part in a week-long training camp at his club, De Halter, this month.

Bolton's silver medallists were Mia Kipling and Ruby Leader, with bronze medals won by Arin Sekirden, Layla Szymanski, Levi Preston, Harvey May, Hamza Hussain and Jack Costello.

The trio of local athletes who narrowly missed out on a podium finish were Tommy Costello, Alfie Gallagher and Lucas Greeves.

The local club's success shows their quality as the championships attract all the British Wrestling Association member clubs.

Four BOWC athletes have also been selected to represent their country at an international training camp in Naples, Italy to sharpen their skills before some tough European tournaments in the next few months.

Meadows, McGrath, Livesey and Abdullah Hussain are all members of British Wrestling’s National Talent Squad and are on course to achieve the accolade of becoming full Great Britain internationals.

The opportunity to attend this prestigious camp is in recognition of their recent hard work, excellent domestic results and dedication to training.
