Wanderers chairman Phil Gartside confirmed money is available for new manager Gary Megson to spend.

Asked about the availability of funds in the January transfer window Gartside told a Press Conerefence at the Reebok: "If the opportunity arises - but the key word is strengthen.

"Bringing players in is easy but bringing in the right players is the trick we have got to get right.

"We have got a strong squad and we have got to get them into a team shape that suits them."

LOVE BOLTON HATE GARTSIDE

I read the full statement, and his sliminess said "WE HAVE ALWAYS MADE TRANSFER FUNDS AVAILABLE IN JANUARY"

Might I add "yeah Phil, but some old pesetas, a spare button and your busfare home doesn't really constitute 'a budget' really"

Bolton News doing their best to stop the adverse comments, posting a new story every half hour will stop the 300 plus comments from yesterday. 300 plus comments against Megson and they publish a nice photograph of him being welcomed at the Reebok. And the sports editot fobs me of about "a duty to report the facts" well a journalists duty is to publish both sides of any argument and find out the facts not act a Gartsides publicity machine. Its scandalous and its only Spurs sacking Jol that has taken the spotlight from it. (Jol would be rubbish at BWFC btw )

Don't just take 5, "sleep on it"! A wonderful therapy for calming our thoughts on what has been going on at our beloved club at the beginning of this season. We all feel we have been let down by the Chairman and can only hope that the Owner might be concerned about his actions too.

However. I thought that our new Manager - FACT - gave a good interview and will give him my full backing for at least ten games.

I do not want the team to go down and will not be a part in any more divisive posts to assist in that.

The reality is that you negative posters are a VERY SMALL MINORITY . The majority, (who are NOT gutless sheep by the way) "as I have said before" are decent, hard working, family men and women and their kids who support their local team.

I will give Megson a chance - because Gartslime wont get rid of him - get behind the team guys come on, but as far as Gartslime goes: "money available"!!! THE PROTESTS MUST START NOW - if pinochio syndrome was real, you could slide down Gartslime's nose all the way to Australia. He is the biggest bullshitter there is. WE MUST NOW TAKE SIGNS "GARTSLIME OUT" He wont give us any money he is a liar liar liar. He disgusts me!!!

Hey mister Pedro, I should imagine we are all mostly "decent family types" and we all support our local team. I have in the past been on here defending Gartside against what I thought was unjust criticism, If I seee the current situation as warranting a so called negative response as someone who has been criticised for my so called positive outlook might I repectfully suggest that I and others have the right to so do.

I'd also dispute your statistics supporting your minority claim, I suppose it is down to what you in your wisdom deem to be "negative".

Just maybe your "negative" is someone elses "legitimate concern"

Yours,

Like i said yesterday you sometimes have to be cruel to the club to be kind to the club. If everybody boycotts Sundays game I can't see Gartside having any option but to go. Ok, it would be hard for the players and Megson but long term it would be good for BWFC.

Quotes from the past week.

"he would be an exceptional candidate for the role". Gartside on Souness, ignoring the huge mess he left both Blackburn and Newcastle in.

"I have paid particular attention to his career". Gartside on Megson, ignoring his record of 7 wins in 48 premier league games.

Then when fans quite justifiably take issue with his judgement he calls us fickle!!!

No wonder most fans hate the man and want him out of our club asap

Not well said Pedro. Please do me a favour and stop patronising us with your therapeutic nonsense. Where's your evidence that the majority of posters are only a small minority? I seem to recall the vote on this issue showed over 90% of fans against the appointment! And to assume that those of us with the anger are in some way not decent, hard working, family men and women is a complete insult. I'll agree with you on one count...we should support the new boss now. I'll agree with that. But I'll not support a chariman that accuses the vast majority of Wanderers fans of being too thick to understand this value of this appointment. He owes every fan a massive apology for that comment..and you should also apologise for insulting those of us who wish to voice our opinions.

Even is there is only gartside in ground watching him , be funny though watching match of the day with only gartside in the stand . We need to get behind megson and hopefully if he keeps us up , protest against gartside then . Because everybody agrees we do not want him to be our chairman and he is doesnt no what he is doing . I wouldn't abuse Megson at this stage. I don't know why he's been appointed given his track record but at least he isn't Souness.
Bolton fans (ie those who go and watch rather than criticise on this forum, and hope the the team fails) have been pressing for European football. Last night the ground was two thirds empty, with tickets at £10. No wonder that we can't attract a decent manager. What was worse last night were the booing and shouts against Megson, Gartside and the board, when the team were playing - were these all Blackburn fans wanting us to join them in exiting the EUFA cup?
Try backing the team rather than follow the pathetic Scum fans who refused to watch "their" team because they thought that they could oust the owner!

hatemanu - whatever we may think about Megson, love him or hate him the reality is that however innocent, he is not going to be part of the solution.

By default that makes him part of the problem.

why?

because of the nature of his appointment

because of his negative track record in the
prem and championship

because of his tactical reputation

because of his man management credentials - consistently alienates his players

because he's here to blag one last pay check before he disappears into obscurity

because the two and a half year contract means nothing it just indicates how much compensation he will take when he's sacked

because it will almost certainly hasten the departure of the talent that we need to stay up

because he represents Gartsides last throw of the dice and he can't deliver

because if he gets his 10 games that works out at 240,000 grand per game in compo and we are then in a position of having to chase points with no more games left = doing a baggies

because worse still if we are relegated and he keeps his job because they think he can get us back first time then we will have reached the disasterous conclusion languishing in the championship going nowhere = doing a forest

2 1/2 years later we are looking for a new manager

in the championship

Nobody wanted GFM, he is here now and stated his position. Hard work and wants what we all want to take BWFC forward. No amount of protests - booing - and campaigns to get Gartside out will make the sligtest difference.
Gartside is not going, Megson is not going. Time for protests etc is if by January we are still in the bottom 3. By then we will know if Gartside has made the right choice, Megson is up to it and we can see a way fwd to competing for a euro place.

It's true "unhappy wanderer" you don't have to go to the game to have an opinion, your opinion is more valid if you do go though.I know many Liverpool,Manchester United fans who all have opinions but never go to games, now Bolton too appear to have a lot of fans who think they can read reports/watch telly and have an opinion worth listening to - and many appear on this site criticising things they know nothing about. All you can say to these "fans at home" is get down to the ground and form an informed opinion worth listening to.

Just watched extended highlights of the RSB v Bayern game on the Bayern Website(English commentary too)- 12 euros for three months subsciption. Both goalkeepers look suspect and teams look good but beatable by an in-form Wanderers team. Pitch condition was poor according to the commentator. Described as not good enough for European Football. In one of the preview interviews it was said that RSB are full of very young inexperienced players and the team would be only be equivalent to teams in the bottom half of the second Bundesliga. They still gave Bayern quite a game though.

The point I am making here is that slagging off people's views on the basis they "probably don't" go to games is patronising and presumptious. If a person enters the Reebok on one occasion a season he has enriched the club & is entitled to a say. Does BWFC whinge that the paying customers who watch Sky are not "true fans"? Not bloody likely, Sky pays rather well. I think lively debate is a good thing provided it does not seek to justify Gartside as the club's chairman. If it does, it is overwhelmingly misguided.

This is the first opportunity I have had to comment on our new appointment.

Certain questions I would like to put to Mr Gartside:-

Do you now see us as a small club with what can best be described a journeyman manager?

Do we no longer have ambition to be a top 6 side?

Frankly, I am appalled at the appointment. This is a man who was hounded out from Forest by discontented fans, then spent the next 18 months applying for, and being rejected by lower league clubs.

The same man who 6 weeks ago was out of a job, we now pay around £300000 compensation to Leicester, whose fans also jeered him out of their ground.

We are a club in freefall. There has to be a hidden agenda here. Brave enough to tell us what it is, Phil?

under the mugson/ phil sh1teside era, i think the team should run out to this. very apt. read the words ... sad but true.

"Mad World"

All around me are familiar faces
Worn out places, worn out faces
Bright and early for their daily races
Going nowhere, going nowhere
And their tears are filling up their glasses
No expression, no expression
Hide my head I want to drown my sorrow
No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kind of funny
I find it kind of sad
The dreams in which I'm dying
Are the best I've ever had
I find it hard to tell you
'Cos I find it hard to take
When people run in circles
It's a very, very
Mad World
Children waiting for the day they feel good
Happy Birthday, Happy Birthday
Made to feel the way that every child should
Sit and listen, sit and listen
Went to school and I was very nervous
No one knew me, no one knew me
Hello teacher tell me what's my lesson
Look right through me, look right through me

This "agent" business keeps nagging at me, what is a guy like this doing representing our club, given his dodgy background.

Is it possible that Gartside, moreso than Allardyce, was involved in the bungs scandal, and that this agent knows enough to convict him, therefore Gartside has to keep him onside by offering him work, fees, commissions etc and by offering his totally unsuitable client the managers job??

Just a thought.

The Warburtons -How much influence do they have?
This is not meant to be a witch hunt (I stand to be corrected on aspects of this posting)but Since I started watching Bolton in the 1970s one family has lurked in the background rarely venturing publicly to outline their strategy or vision for our club .

This family one of Britians wealthiest have been making decisions that have seen our club almost go out of business several times whilst their own business appears to go from strength to strength.
quote
Lets recall some of the decisons that they have been involved in making whilst serving as baord members
1-Bromwich Street training ground sold off that the club owned - for years the club did not have a training ground Colin Todd I think got the present site at Euxton - though I don't know id we actually own it?
2-The Normid Superstore- wasn't that going to be bult further back and have a football stand, sports centre incorporated into its design.
3-Lack of investement in an infrastructure for the club as well as players for the football club.
4-The failiure to redevelop Burndedn Park and build a stadium in the heart of our town on land that the club owns - I suspect the Reebok site is on a long term lease like many of the new stadiums
5-Floating BWFC as a Public Limited Company that resulted in supports losing money
6-Allowing the club to drop into the then Divsion Four.

Aspects of the 90's were succesful with Bruce Rioch galvansing the club and gets us promoted to the top flight before leaving for Arsenal - pehaps he could see our limitations on and off the pitch. WE had the joint managership fiasco before Colin Todd got us promoted only to go down again. I feel that some people would rather us be a club challenging to go up rather than actually being an established premiership side. Only Sam Allardyce has ever shared a vision for BWFC with the fans and he exceeded everyones expectations including the Boards I expect.

We never hear publicly their views but let Mr Gartside be the front man like they have done to other people in the past. We will never know how Gartside came to join our Board of Directors I do wonder sometimes how much control Eddie Davies actually has at Bolton Wanderers. I feel that he could do with some support finacially in terms of investing in the playing staff at BWFC after all we do have one Britains richest families on our Board of Directors.

History appears to repeating itself the failure to allow Allardyce to strengthen his squad last January was a major mistake just as it was in 1970s when Ian Greaves couldn't bring in new players to freshen up his aging squad rsulitinh in him being sacked and the club relegated. I bet we have not picked up 25 premiership points in 2007.

It has been a difficult time for all of us fans but we need to ask questions of all members of our board not just Gartside and if they are not prepared or cannot invest finacially then we should for new investors. This time unlike the 80's new investment should be encouraged to join and allowed to join the board if we are to prosper as a club.

Well said Tom. People on this forum seem to think Gartside and his crew are interested in BWFC and football! Badly mistaken, the only thing they think about is their money. They are business men not fans and just like the status of being on a football clubs board, I used to know one!

first of all do you have such a poor understanding of the english language that this is the best statement you could come up with. secondly, do we want the team to end up like Leeds? I certainly don't, and that is why i will be there on sunday and i will be cheering the team, and i will be praying we get the three points we bloody need. Everybody is in agreeance that Mr Gartside is no longer wanted at the healm of the club, but by not turning up and supporting the team will certainly doom the club to the fizzy pop league anyway. There are ways and means of doing things, and i don't think Greedy Phil will be able to hear your protests from your armchair sat in front of the telly or the pub. Our voices need to be heard, and i for one will be voicing it whilst supporting the team i love.

Utter rubbish , i will be entering the ground surporting the team ,i to hate gartside as much as anybody for making our team a laughing stock and for letting the surporters down badly . Next few weeks are the most important for the last 5 years , games at home to villa and boro are winable and the players need our surport, plus with transfer window approaching we need to stop the rot, to have any hope of keeping half our team . What we need to do is say nobody buy a season ticket for next season till gartside goes . And stop buying stuff in the ground and shirts , but we have got to be there to surport our team , gartside is not bigger than bolton wanderers . That my opinion but no people disagree with it , but we all agree we have to get gartside out .
Still think the best way forward is for everbody not to buy anything to do with bolton wanderers ,while gartside is still there . From shirts , programs , halftime pies , even beer . If like people are saying they are just interested in money , this will effect everything . First and foremost we all have to get behind the team and hope we can get out of bottom three . End of season nobody buy season tickets until the liar goes .Come on you whites

I thought that our new Manager - FACT - gave a good interview and will give him my full backing for at least ten games. I do not want the team to go down and will not be a part in any more divisive posts to assist in that. The reality is that you negative posters are a VERY SMALL MINORITY .
"I seem to recall the vote on this issue showed over 90% of fans against the appointment". Out of a total vote of 699, many of whom probably never go to a game (apart from watching in the pub).
Well you live in your world, Chris, and I'll live in the real world. Of all the comments I heard last night going into the Reebok, in the Reebok, and coming out of the Reebok (including Reebok staff, some of whom will lose their jobs if we go down), all of them were opposed to Megson's appointment.
I guess you'll say I only heard the minority who never got to any other game ....

Realistically Megson will take the team down and then get the sack.Out will go him and his(yet to be appointed) cronies e.g. Frank Burrows and Gerry Taggart who had replaced Sbragia, Phillips, Barber etc in a cull that will take place over the coming weeks. The better players who have not left in January will leave on or before 30th June for pastures new. That is the time when the club will be stripped down to a minimum and is also the time when Davies and Gartside will have to sell up.From that point onwards the comeback can begin.

Ian's not wrong at all, The club is not just about The Gingerbreadman and Gartside. All the board decided on the appointment!!! Once everything has calmed down and we start letting our football do all the talking and as a club start climbing back up the table we should be in a better position. True since last December as pointed out other prem clubs had sussed us out tactically and our results on from them haven't been much to shout about. Lets face it we are bottom of the league we can't drop anymore places!!! Onwards and upwards your either with us or not!!! Protest will do litle but overall damage the club incite other fans too take more of the urine and stop quality players coming into the fold. More importantly carry on protesting and watch the likes of Anelka, Dioufy etc walk away cause lets face it would you play 110% with your supposed fans booing you and calling for heads??? TEAMWORK is key so which side are you on cause most comments are trying to make fans choose like protesting, boycotting & singing (that made me laugh cause aren't we the worse fans for singing at matches according to national survey's???) Come on lads lets just see what happens come Sunday lets see what style we are going to endure. Rome wasn't built in a day most fans on here (names not being mentioned but you know who you are) want losses so they can say told you so!!! Grow up get behind your team remember Div 4 lets not even think about those times. Its time to get a grip and steady the ship and get behind the boys!!! Bolton 2 - 1 Villa VIVA LE WHITES!!!! James i guess that was you in the Bolton News James 31 from Westhougton, with the Gartside out banner? Well i respect you for that it is good to see someone who puts his thoughts into practice. Personally i carried out a silent protest on thursday by not attending and i think it did the trick as Gartslime was seen to be sat in his seat looking rather ruffled - shocked at the attendance. I am in no doubt that many fans have become disillusioned at the club's plight and that recent goings on have pushed even the most tolerant fan too far hence the abysmal attendance.

There are not many fans who can say they had a season ticket in BWFC's one and only year in the 4th division - i did. I have supported this club for 20+ years and for many of those had a season ticket so please don't anyone try and question as to whether i am a fan. In the past i might have voiced my opinion vocally and more aggressively however i have learnt that in my opinion the best way of protesting is with your feet. ok a loyal fan is one that has support the team when its struggling to get 5000 fans, i have had a season ticket for over30 years, but in all the time i have supported us there has been an element of moaning fans.
do you really think that the directors of this club are now going to change their mind over the appointment because a group of fans disagree, the same fans that sang "you dont know what your doing when guthrie was rested, and then 5 mins later shouted archie archie give us a wave, i dont want to argue with my fellow bwfc fans, i know its just passion for the club, but lets try to move on.

Regardless of what anyone thinks of the new manager, I'll still suport BWFC, even in the Championship. The fact is, he may have a terrible track record. The team he just left has the lowest goals against average in the league, by far. Maybe he can stop the leaky defense. Get behind the team and see what happens. At least y'all can GO and see them play. I may never be able to go to the Reebok and watch my favorite team play.

Got to agree with you, Getting behind the lads is a must. Move on and lets get some results. Villa as always been a tricky test always ended in a draw going off recent matches but i do think its there for the taking. Come on you whites!!!!!

At last we are beginning to see some sense on here.
We have a manager and a team that need our full support to drag us out of the cr@p.
What they need is for us to get behind them and boost their confidence and get them playing how we know they can.
Our squad is no where near the worst 3 in that league, the pie eaters and Boro are on the horizon, victories there will see us mid table and away from trouble.
IT WON'T HAPPEN WITHOUT US.
I can remember div 4 wds evenings in the rain in Exeter with no roof over us. I do not want to be going back to those places, so I for one will be behind my team doing my best to cheer them up the league.

A nice point that has been brought to my attention.

Plenty of folk would have been delighted with Aidy Boothroyd, no?

Well guesss who appointed Boothroyd to his backroom staff at WBA in 2003.

A clue: He developed a highly talented and effective backroom staff at WBA somewhat like BSA did here.

Come on guys, cheer up. In one interview Gary Megson has looked more of an authority figure than Sammy Lee(nice guy he is) could ever be,

Let's get behind the team and our new manager. A couple of wins and we are into mid table, we can start looking upwards and all is right with the world.

COME ON YOU WHITES.

Little Ms Hypocrite.
I thought you'd be pleased with your in depth football knowledge ?
Can we have your opinions on Megson's dress sense, his accent...all the things you think are relevant to management ?

Right, FFS, whats done is done now. I didn't want GM as a manager either, but to be honest I thought Megson gave a good press conference, at least he can talk to the media and sounded as though he is ready to give the club his best. Lets give him a chance, boycotting the game WILL NOT help the team, gartside won't give a t0ss, you'd be better off piling inside the ground and shouting for BWFC and giving the players some much needed confidence. We need support and results, we are already the laughing stock of the Premiership and sulking and protesting will do no good for the club. Give the man a chance, I know his record is pants, but when Big Sam came to Bolton, what had he achieved apart from a very dodgy tache?? Lets pick our teddies up and crack on.

Bet there will be money available! Especially when we receive 10m + from the sale of a discontent Anelka, and a few mil from the sale of want away Diouf, 2m for out of contract Jaaskelainen, It wouldn't suprise me at all if we replaced them with the likes of Paddy Kenny Jonathan Greening and Jason Roberts, put them with McCann, Samuel, O'Brien, Helguson, Hunt, Cid, All we now need is Dean Windarse and Mission complete....
It would seem that the, Warburton, family, are happy to be associated with the club but are not prepared to back it financially.

This is their choice and while most fans would be delighted if they did back the club financially, we must remember that, Eddie Davies, owns the majority of the shares and indeed the club. Therefore, he calls the shots.

Has anybody got a plethora of cash they would like to invest? If so contact the club and I'm sure, once your financial credentials have been checked, you would get to meet, MR. Davies, and put a proposition to him.

Davies is the villain in all this, Gartside is just his "yes" man and gets well paid for being it too, no wages but good expenses. They both sold the fans out 5 years ago when they stole all the shares and made them worthless. They then ringfenced all the assets in real estate round the ground so that, even if the club went bust, they would still own anything of value with no debt. That should be a case for the fraud squad. Now they have taken the cheap option because they realise there is no interest from foreign investors as we dont have the glamour of the majority of other Prem clubs. Even Birmingham have a better chance of a big money investor. All Davies ever did was stand as guarantor, not put his hand in his pocket. The Board can't be scaked as there is no one to sack them. Gartside will never go, he is too happy hob nobbing on FA committees and getting his name and picture in the paper. We have been SOLD OUT again.

i agree with all the posts placed on this web- site during this current climate; if we had spent money over the past years then maybe, just maybe, big sam would still be here; he was obviously aware of this seasons plight despite receviing 40 million quid at the start of the season; (where`s this money gone ?). when he was signed from notts county he obviously came as a BWFC great but we as fans never realised just how great he was going to be ! there was time his football was second rate yet he produced results above all expectations; who ever imagined BWFC playing in a european cup competition; if only investment had been given, Champions league football could have been achieved; UEFA Cup football is third rate, just look at the match against Braga, no-body was up for it, players and fans alike !

in my mind, if any player or official does not want to represent the GREAT BWFC then they can disappear quick !; Gary Megson (although not everyone`s favourite son) wanted to come to the club, give him a chance, who would want a job like ours, it was never going to attract a big name, we don`t spend money !

lets get behind the team tomorrow against Villa, were actually on the telly; we desperatley need 3 points; lets critise Gartside and Davies (eddie); there the muppets ruening everything !!!!

ps : i agree with previous comments made, if sammy lee had only been given the role of caretaker manager then we would still have a first rate coach at BWFC still, along with a new manager, instead due to mistakes made by Gartside and his board we have to find a totally new team to take us forward.

respect to sammy lee, he is a fine coach, respected throughout football, he`s never said a bad word about the club since his departure; good look sammy for the future, i wish you were still with BWFC as first team coach !!
