Wanderers today completed the signing of Matt Taylor for an undisclosed fee believed to be in the region of £4million.
The 26-year-old former England Under-21 international completed his move from Portsmouth after undergoing a medical at the Reebok Stadium.
The deal brings to an end Gary Megson's lengthy pursuit of the versatile left-side player who can operate either at left back or in midfield.
Wanderers agreed a fee for the player at the start of the transfer window but had to wait for Pompey boss Harry Redknapp to sanction the move as he wanted to bring new players to Fratton Park first.
Taylor has signed a three and a half-year deal.

Last week it was reported other teams were in for this guy, then I thought we have no chance then, but to my suprise Bolton Wanderers have come up trumps. All we need now is a quality midfielder who has a good engine on him who can from box to box like Roy Keane used to. Not to mention a out and out striker is needed, desperately. Come on Megson & Bolton Board get your money spent on a good un!!

Rumours yesterday that he was spotted at Euxton were true then. Good post whoever that was ! We have done well to beat others to his signature, but I'm still not sure about him. Rednapp is no mug. If this guy was that good he would have been a regular in the Pompey team. Been on the Pompey fanzone and the reviews about him are mixed. I hope I'm worrying about nothing because 4 million is a lot of money. We have never spent like this before and we need to get value because if we go down we wont get this sort of cash again. Cahill from Villa and Gomis from Saint Ettienne and it will have been a good January !!

If truth be told in the current climate Im surprised the fee wasnt closer to 6mill. as everyone will be aware the price for good young english players is always higher due to lack (sadly) of available talent.
A step in the right direction - I know we are loaded with midfielders but very few of them are up to scratch and will be offloaded I'm sure in the summer if not earlier (Wilhemsson, Braaten possible loan, Campo possibly on his way out, Nolan not up to it etc). I think he'll hopefully be played in midfield rather than in defence where he will be cover for Gardner who I'd still prefer at left back despite his failings. Unlike some of our past signings like Samuel, McCann, Alonso, Helguson, O'Brien I'm a lot less underwhelmed by this one. Fresh faces alone will liven up the squad a bit if they're half decent. We need a minimum of two other players and I would prefer three - a centre back, a creative mid, and at least one quality striker. £4 million is a lot of money for Bolton but fans can't complain when we splash the cash when we've been crying out for it to happen. Lets face it - £4 million is pretty much the minimum for a half decent Premier league player, especially if he's English as they are always at a premium.

As much as we need to be ambitious players like Diarra and Defoe won't come to teams like Bolton as long as we are in our current mess and Defoe probably wouldn't even leave London given he thinks he's a celebrity.
Well done Gartside for providing us with much needed funding, lets hope there's more to come. 2 good signings so far. Megson said that he already had a substantial transfer kitty before Anelka was even sold so lets hope that this is the case. If so it looks like we could potentially have a good squad for the remainder of the season. I hope that these recent movements will stop the incessant abuse being aimed at Gartside who I personally believe has done a marvelous job with Bolton over the last 10 years. Seems to me that people cannot remember that far back, when being in the Premiership and Europe was merely a distant dream!!!

How many times have any of you seen Matt Taylor? I've seen him for Portsmouth against us but that's not enough to judge. I might not go as far as Big Fat Sam's post but all I've seen is a couple of wonder goals over the last couple of years. Why isn't he in the Portsmouth team? Is it a fall out with Redknapp or is it because he's not good enough? What do Portsmouth fans think? I'm not slagging the lad off and I hope he slots in and does a great job. Not sure where his best position is. Hope the Icelander can play well in centre defence, otherwise Owen and Viduka against O'Brien and Mich.

Andy Johnson & Jason Roberts will not get us the goals on a regular basis. Everton are having the best season for a long time and how many has Johnson scored not a lot!!! Sky Sports News are reporting that James McFadden has left Birmingham without agreeing personal terms this evening, and that a second club have come in with a rival bid.
Many news outlets have already reported that Faddy has joined Birmingham, but after a story appeared on Everton's Official site today claiming a fee had been agreed, it was down to the Scot to agree personal terms.
Everton had agreed a fee of up to £5.75m but McFadden's agent Willie MacKay claims another club have expressed an interest.

Everton striker James McFadden has left Birmingham and his agent has claimed another club are interested in signing the player, according to reports.
This afternoon, Everton announced they had accepted a bid from Birmingham City for the 24-year-old Scotland international - thought to be around £5.5million.
However, Sky Sports News have reported that McFadden ended talks without reaching an agreement and his agent Willie McKay has claimed another club have now expressed an interest.
A negotiating technique or something more serious? More details will follow when they become available....

JB wrote: I'd go for Crouch, Reports saying Roberts is going to turn down offers to see if he can stick it out at Blackburn... Roberts reminds me too much of Ricketts a lazy sod but can pop up with the occassional goal!!! Now how about Crouch???I dont doubt that Roberts has got faults and I would agree with anyone that says he doesnt score enough goals, but I cannot think of another striker that works harder up front (I am not counting Davies as most of his hard work is done in a defensive, not attacking, role). Roberts runs his socks off and is a nightmare to defend against. Well worth a couple of million whether or not we sign another striker. I would settle for Lita as there would be no settling in period if we buy English.

We have to go to the EU for a striker. Proven premiership goalscorers of real quality cost 10 million plus. We can buy a striker who cannot make the grade with another club for 5 million. Roberts and Lita are poor replacements for the quality we had. Lets not settle for second best. There are good srtikers out there with unfashionable EU clubs. Megson said he had scouts out there. We can pay better wages than many of these clubs and offer them the shop window of the premiership. I would rather gamble on a young prospect with pace, skill and ambition than settle for an ageing reject where who will lose us a fortune if he can't do the job.

I still dont understand why everyone has decided Bratten is no good, if anyone had watched our last few games and no others, we would think Davies, Nolan, Joey O'B, Jussi & Wilhemson werent cut out for the Premiership - too slow, lightweight, overweight, take your pick. Yet only Bratten and Alonso seem to be judged by these standards. Bratten has still produced 1 of the moments of the season for me, a 50 yard run at Birmingham that the rest of the team could only dream about doing, because he's the ONLY player we've got that possesses both strength and pace. I'm not saying he should be starting, but if he we have no strikers on the bench again I will be seriously brassed off, because you can guarantee we'll be trailing with 20 minutes left as with every away match.
yeah it would be nice to give harsanyi a go, but i suppose megson would argue this isnt the time to be testing untried players at this level. although we at least need to stick a striker on the bench instead of 3 defenders!

Run, rabbit, run- you are so negative. A young, English, versatile player who was tipped for England last year. Nothing the club does pleases people like you.

McFadden is a great example of how over priced players are in January. Makes sense for Birm to sign him as McLeish got lots out of him for the Jocks. Even Lita would cost a few million because Reading know we are desperate. When is Helguson back?
