NINE athletes from Bolton Harriers and Horwich RMI Harriers have been called up into the Greater Manchester team for the English Schools championships in Gateshead.
Bolton Harriers' Ashley Marshall will compete in the junior boys high jump, Oriel Hardman in the intermediate girls 800m, Tom Carson in the intermediate boys 3,000m, Chris Burgess in the intermediate boys 100m and Michael O'Donnell in the senior boys javelin.
Horwich's Jack Thomas will run in the senior boys 100m, and Matthew Storey will compete in the intermediate boys 100m.
Jamie Crompton has been selected for the 1,500m steeplechase in his first season at the event, and April Stephenson has been selected for the intermediate girls 800m.
The English Schools is the highest level competition for school-aged athletes with tough entry criteria. Only 60 athletes from across Greater Manchester have been selected.
A number of Horwich athletes competed in the latest Junior League match in which, in a combined competition with Wigan Harriers, they came second, the highlight being a victory by Megan Christopher in her first attempt at the 400m hurdles.
