Jackson is top vet

ROB Jackson produced an impressive performance to win the Northern Veterans AC 10K race.

The Horwich RMI ace clocked 34 minutes and 33 seconds to finish comfortably ahead of Ben Riddell, who ran a personal best of 34.55, to collect the Joan Rhodes Memorial Cup.

Rossendale junior Jordon Beard ran 35.45 to finish third with Ken Fowler, Bolton United Harrier fourth and the first V55 in 40.34.

Other locals were Radcliffe AC runners Kathryn Davies (V45) in 49.49, Bill Armstrong (V55) in 51.11 and Eileen Royel the first V60 in 52.09.

Horwich V45 Linda Leyland won the women's 10k Cup in 43.33 with Wesham pair Kath Hoyer and Michaeir Dempsey finishing second and third in 44.23 and 45.55 respectively.

Bill Atkinson (V70) ran 22.14 to win the 5k race for the Fred Norris Cup with Radcliffe's George Critchley (V50) runner-up in a personal best of 22.15, and club-mate Jim Sutcliffe (V40) fourth in 22.41.

The race raised £180 for St Ann's Hospice.
