More new signings on the way - Cahill

GARY Cahill believes it is only a matter of time before the Wanderers squad is strengthened by more new signings.

The Whites defender has been impressed by the calibre of this summer's two arrivals, Fabrice Muamba and Johan Elmander, for a combined £16million.

But Cahill predicted that Gary Megson is not finished in the transfer market yet, and would be happy to see the squad boosted with fresh talent.

"It's good to bring quality players in- it will help the team go forward and progress," the centre-half said.

"It will increase the talent that is already in the squad but the new signings are good signs for the upcoming season.

"We have only been back a few days, so maybe the manager will strengthen the squad again, which will only benefit the club and take us closer to where we want to be."

Cahill was one of Megson's first signings back in January, arriving from Aston Villa for £5million. The partnership he formed at the back with Andy O'Brien helped set the solid base from which Wanderers were able to secure their Premier League survival.

And although he was not at the Reebok from the start of the last campaign, when poor results made sure of an uphill task from there on in, Cahill has taken on board the lesson's learned.

"Bolton 's start to last season was very slow and that's why it ended up being such a tough season," he said.

"It's very important for us to start the season well - the sooner you get the points on the board the better.

"Everyone comes back match fit and match fit and match sharp, so there's no excuses really from the word go."

It is 36 days and counting before the Premier League campaign kicks-off again, with a home game against Stoke City.

Cahill has his mind set on continuing the kind of form that had Fabio Capello's scouts monitoring his progress in the final few months of last season.

"It's important for us to start early and start well," Cahill said. "But it's the same for me as well- it's my first full season here and I need to get back to the fitness levels I finished at. I can't see there being any problems and I'm looking forward to it."
