It' six in a row for champions Rupert

10:10am Wednesday 27th August 2008

RUPERT Ladies A were crowned league champions for the sixth year running with a victory over their B team.

Darcy Lever CC A took the runners-up spot with a win against their B team.

The top sides will meet on Friday in the final of the Chadwick Cup which takes place at Heaton CC, starting at 6.45pm.

The Dixon Shield Final was won by Walkden CC B who led The Grapes B 57-18 at half-time with Amy Coleman 13 and Sophie Ayres 12 the top scorers.

The Grapes B improved in the second innings, and Sherri-Lee Belk and Roslyn Liptrot, with nine each, led the team to 47 but could not prevent Walkden winning 131D-65.

Second innings top scorers for Walkden were Jenny Simmons 20, Lucy Phelan 12 and Jessica Smith 10.

Bradbury Ladies claimed top spot in Section B after a 92-66 win against Westside. Any one of four teams could finish runners-up.

Hough Fold Ladies became champions of Section E with an innings defeat of Fox & Stork.

This week’s match between The Brierfield and Lower Pools is a mouthwatering prospect as both teams can still win the title.

Newly-promoted Darcy Lever CC D finished top of Section J and Duke of Wellington’s 184-144 victory over Cyns Tavern clinched them the Section O title.

Eagley Pike Ladies lifted themselves away from the relegation zone in Section I with a two-point win against Blades Barbers. Just one run separated the teams at half-time but 26 runs from Morris in the second innings gave Eagley the edge and a 124-122 win.

The Matchwinners finals will be played at Darcy Lever Cricket Club on September 14. Darcy Lever CC D will play Royal Bolton Hospital A (scr) at 1pm, and Walkden CC A meet Walkden CC B at 2.30pm.

The Golden Girls match will be played on Sunday, 2pm start, at Elton Vale SC. Squad: Jean Jones, Ellen McGuinness, Jean Pender, Marlene Jolly, Nora Boak, Anita Crook, Sylvia Sutton, Audrey Price, June Duckworth, Anita Jones, Angela Brown, Kathleen Peters, Marlene Winter, Lilian Stokes and Marion Gaskell.

Teams who may be involved in the play-offs should telephone or email their results to the results secretary straight after the matches.

The play-offs will take place on Monday, September 1, to Thursday, September 4. Teams will be informed by the match secretary.
