PAUL Scholes is not on Gary Megson’s summer wanted list — but Spurs midfielder Tom Huddlestone may be.

Weekend reports linked Manchester United veteran Scholes with a switch to the Reebok.

But The Bolton News understands the 34-year-old former England star is not on the Reebok radar.

It is believed neither Wanderers nor Stoke City have approached the Premier League champions over a deal.

Scholes has one year remaining on his contract at Old Trafford and it was mooted that Sir Alex Ferguson would let him leave on a free transfer.

But while Megson has made a ball-playing midfielder top of his priority list, Spurs’ England Under-21 midfielder Huddlestone looks a considerably more likely candidate, and one more in keeping with his long-term plans for the Whites.

The 22-year-old has been linked with a number of clubs over the last few weeks, including Aston Villa and Fulham.

Harry Redknapp is keen to raise funds for his own purchases this summer, and is willing to let the powerful youngster go for between £6-8million.

That price tag would seem to have scared off newly-promoted Wolves, but having been guaranteed funds by owner Eddie Davies to boost his squad, long-time admirer Megson would be able to negotiate for Huddlestone in that price bracket.

Billed as one of the best passers in the Premier League, the former Derby County trainee only signed a new long-term deal at White Hart Lane last summer.

But he made just 14 starts in the league this term, with Redknapp preferring £10m Wilson Palacios in the centre of midfield.

Any move, however, is not likely to happen in the next fortnight, with Megson keen to bide his time in the transfer market. The window re-opens on July 1, and serious negotiations are only likely to start with potential signings after that date.
