Jonathan Greening slipping off Whites radar

WANDERERS are unlikely to make a move for unsettled West Brom midfielder Jonathan Greening.

Gary Megson was linked with the 30-year-old former Manchester United star after talks with Swansea’s Ferrie Bodde reached an impasse at the weekend.

Fulham have already had two bids of £1.8million and £2.2m rejected this summer, and it is now considered doubtful that Wanderers will launch a rival offer, with the club looking at other midfield options.

Greening is keen to extend his stay in the Premier League and, along with fellow Whites target Paul Robinson, is ready to stage talks with manager Roberto di Matteo, sporting director Dan Ashworth and chairman Jeremy Peace this week to discuss his future.

West Brom insist the next move in negotiations over Robinson must come from the Reebok.

Sources in the Midlands claim Wanderers have offered a seven-figure sum with add-on clauses, which would appear to meet the Baggies initial valuation of £1million, set last month.

But following weekend tabloid reports that maintained the Championship club had raised the bar to a hefty £3m, the deal looks less clear-cut than it had a week ago.

Robinson has publicly stated his desire to leave the Hawthorns, and was first thought to be on his way to Celtic, following former West Brom boss Tony Mowbray.

Sources close to Mowbray, however, claim he has never enquired about signing the 30-year-old, with Wanderers the only Premier League club to have expressed an interest.

Megson is keen to resolve the issue by the end of the week, with the squad due to fly out to Austria for a pre-season fitness camp.

Aston Villa are the latest club to be linked with a move for Miguel Veloso, who was at the top of Wanderers’ wanted list until recently. The classy midfielder looked set to resume his career at Sporting Lisbon after healing a rift with club coach Paulo Bento, having been heavily tipped for a move to the Premier League for a number of months. The latest wave of interest has also resurrected rumours of a bid from Wanderers, although The Bolton News understands that no fresh contact has been made with the Portuguese club.
