GARY Megson has revealed that he wants to sign SIX more players before the season kicks-off on August 15.
The Wanderers boss confirmed that final bids are on the table for Swansea midfielder Ferrie Bodde and West Brom defender Paul Robinson but that he was prepared to move on from both deals to find the extra bodies his squad so desperately needs.
Sean Davis remains the only signing of the transfer window so far and, as the former Portsmouth star joined his team-mates for the first time at Euxton yesterday, Megson said his arrival would not be the last this summer.
“We’ve brought Sean in and I’d like to get six more players,” he said.
“I don’t want to be a football club like we were last year when we turned up at the Emirates with only two or three subs.
“It is always difficult because we are looking for players that can improve us from that 13th spot in the table.”
Wanderers have reached an impasse on the transfer front, with both their existing deals currently deadlocked.
Swansea reportedly want £5million for Bodde, with the most recent bid standing somewhere around the £3.5m mark.
Megson maintains that the club will not improve on the current offer.
“We have made an offer for Ferrie,” he confirmed.
“We are where we are with that one and if Swansea do want to do business it will be on the price we have last done at.
“Otherwise we will move on because we have got one or two midfielders here that I am pleased with and every player has their price so we won’t go above what we have offered so far.”
The Whites boss took a similar stance with Robinson, whose move from West Brom has stalled over the last seven days.
Reports in the Midlands suggest Wanderers have matched the Baggies £1million asking price but seems no nearer his move to the Reebok.
“Paul is a West Brom player at the moment. We have made an offer and we will wait and see what happens with that,” he added.
As reported in The Bolton News this week, Megson also drew a line through West Brom’s Jonathan Greening and Manchester City’s Gelson Fernandes as potential targets.
“Fernandes is very similar to a player we have got here so we are not involved in that one,” he explained.
“We have not been involved with Jonathan Greening either. We could go on and on because I think we were linked with about 300 players last summer.”
