WEST Brom manager Roberto di Matteo has warned Wanderers that he will not let Paul Robinson leave the Hawthorns without a fight.
The Baggies boss adopted a defiant stance yesterday amid suggestions that his experienced full-back was poised to leave the Midlands to link up with the Whites.
Gary Megson confirmed earlier this week that Wanderers had tabled a final offer — believed to be worth around £1million — to West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace and were now preparing to look elsewhere for defensive cover.
But, in what has become a daily bout of posturing in protracted negotiations for the 30-year-old, Di Matteo claimed no-one would leave his squad without his permission.
“As we said last week, we don’t have to sell anybody and we don’t really want to sell anybody,” he said.
“There was an offer for him but we’re not in a position where we have to sell. We’re going to keep hold of all our players.”
Sources in the Midlands suggest a deal for Robinson is still on the cards, with the club still angry over comments made by the player at the end of last season stating his desire to play elsewhere.
Matters could well be pushed on today with the Albion squad set to fly out to Slovenia to begin their pre-season preparations.
