DESPITE a 5-4 defeat to Radcliffe CC, Hilton Tameside jumped to the top of the Premier Division two points ahead of Ramsbottom A, who have played one match less.
Nigel Hallows scored three and Rob Hall two for Radcliffe, while Jake Shaw won two and Jeff Craighill and John Hope one apiece for the losers.
Wharton had mixed results, winning 8-1 at Little Lever B, with trebles from Bob Jackson and Glen Payne and a brace from Barry Elliott.
They followed that with a 5-4 reverse against visitors St Catherine’s A whose John Hilton was unbeaten. Hilton A scored two 6-3 wins against Ramsbottom C and Burning Desire. Ron Pennington trebled against Ramsbottom, and Lindsey Reynolds won the three Burning Desire sets.
Ramsbottom enjoyed with a 7-2 victory over Little Lever B with three wins from Graham Young, and two each from Graham Hoy and Keith Jackson.
Little Lever A suffered a 7-2 defeat to visitors Ramsbottom B, whose Brian Clemments and new signing Derek Young both won three. A treble from Dennis Collier for Nomads A, which included the first defeat of top-10 leader Kristof Pinter of St Catherine’s A, was not enough to save his team from a 5-4 loss.
St Catherine’s share top spot in Division One with Heaton A on 55 points. Heaton’s regular trio of Steve Barber, and Matt and Paul Ward recorded maximum points against Ladybridge A.
Ramsbottom D also won maximum points against Wingates, with Martin Holt, Martin Wyatt and Les Phillipson unbeaten on the night.
Little Lever C beat Heaton C 7-2, and then enjoyed a 6-3 victory over Hilton B, with John Hutchinson winning three in both matches. Heaton C came out 5-4 winners over their B team, despite three win from Barry Dobbins for the losers. In Division Two, top team Nomads B scraped a 5-4 win over Farnworth TTC A with a treble from Brett Haslam, and a double from Dave Holden.
Heaton D, in second place, 11 points behind Nomads, scored an 8-1 win at Ladybridge B, which featured three wins by Bill Farihurst and John Scowcroft, plus two by Alan Crompton. Bob Bent scored three for Coburg who are third in the table in their 6-3 win at BEN A.
Grubba Fans, who have moved steadily up the table to fourth place, recorded a 9-0 win at Heaton F scored by Damian Bednarski, Lukasz Serdiuk and Marek Maraszkiewicz.
Steven Ross and Matthew Fields trebled for Hilton E who beat their C team 6-3, as did Paul McCormick for Heaton E who won by the same score at Little lever D. Three wins from Steve Jones and Phil Noden, and two from Mick Kitchen gave Meadow Hill A an 8-1 victory over Hilton D.
St Catherine’s D marched on at the top of Division Three, beating their E team 7-2 to claim a 14-point advantage over Hilton H in second place.
Ben Dudley was unbeaten as was the top 10 leader Stuart McCaig. Hilton H ran out 8-1 winners against Ladybridge C with three wins from Tony Mason and Alan Revell and two from Malcolm Wilcock. Ben B won 5-4 at St Paul’s Peel thanks to the three wins from Alan Hibbert.
Division Four top team Hilton J beat a two-man Lads Club B 7-2, while Hilton I, in second place, one point adrift, were beaten 6-3 by Farnworth TTC B who are currently third in the table. The Farnworth win included three wins for Matt Leach, two from Sam Evans, and one from Daniel Harris.
