RADCLIFFE Borough could be poised to cash in on the amazing form of centre back Craig Dawson who is playing a key role in Rochdale’s League Two promotion campaign.
Dawson’s outstanding form since moving to Spotland at the end of last season has prompted a reported bid of £750,000 from Premier League giants Spurs with a host of other clubs, including Sheffield United and Middlesbrough, interested in the 19-year-old.
With Boro in line to pocket as much as 15 per cent of any future transfer fee, Dawson’s meteoric rise could bring a much-needed windfall for the Stainton Park club.
Director of football, Gerry Luczka, was at Spotland on Tuesday night to watch Dawson put in another fine display as his home-town club beat big-spending Notts County 2-1.
“Dawson was superb,” said Luczka. “To see a lad like that doing so well in the Football League makes all the hard work it takes to be involved in football at non league level worth it.”
Boro entertain UniBond Division One North rivals Garforth tomorrow hoping to get back on track following last week’s disappointing 2-1 home defeat by Prescot Cables.
They will be without striker Adam Roscoe who is visiting Australia for the next four weeks for his sister’s wedding.
Leigh Genesis will concentrate on climbing the league after their disappointing FA Trophy exit last weekend.
The 1-0 defeat at home to Redditch Town ended their interest in all but one cup competion — the Lancashire Trophy — which leaves Garry Flitcroft’s side to focus on promotion from Unibond Division One North.
Currently they are sixth in the table just three points behind Halifax after a run of four wins and a draw.
Genesis entertain Colwyn Bay tomorrow in the first of four home games in their next five outings.
The visitors, second in the table with only two league defeats this season, will pose a difficult test for Genesis.
FC United, knocked out of the FA Trophy when they went down 3-2 to Harrogate Town last weekend, return to UniBond Premier League action against Kendal Town at Gigg Lane tomorrow.
Karl Marginson’s side currently sit one place above the drop zone but only eight points short of the play-off zone.
They were due to face Kendal on Tuesday night but their UniBond Challenge Cup clash was a victim of the weather.
