Atherton LR had to settle for a 1-1 draw at home to Squires Gate in the Vokat North West Counties Premier Division.
Atherton took the lead in the 22nd minute in fortunate circumstances when Paul Socha’s inswinging cross caught the foot of a defender and was deflected past the visitors’ goalkeeper and into the net.
The visitors levelled in first-half injury time when striker Louis Mayers headed home a corner.
LR boss Dave Hughes said: “I suppose before the game, and with us not having played for some length of time, we would have maybe taken a draw.
“Everyone could see we were tired and had a lot of fatigue which resulted in mistakes.
“But we did have enough chances to win the game. At the same time we have got to stop giving away the goals.
“We are making errors and losing possession resulting in us conceding free kicks and throws.
“We just went to sleep before the interval and conceded a nothing goal.
“We defended well in the second half and overall a point after not playing for so long is something.
“We will be better and get fitter, but following a lay off it’s like pre-season again.
“I am disappointed we failed to win, because on chances we probably deserved the three points.”
In the First Division Daisy Hill continue to struggle at the wrong end of the table after they went down 3-2 at home to high-flying Leek Town.
