ATHLETICS: Bolton United Harrier Anthony Valentine, who was crowned “Harriers Road Runner of the Year 2009”, took his fine form into 2010 with a blistering performance to win the Lostock 6 mile road race.
The race, hosted by Lostock AC, is run over a testing, undulating course which includes the leg-sapping hill of Lostock Junction Lane before the final mile up Chorley New Road to the finish at the old British Areospace site. More than 300 athletes competed from across the North West, including 21 from Bolton Harriers.
Valentine, pictured, led from start to finish to win in a time of 30mins 48secs just under two minutes quicker than Bury’s Mark Shakeshaft.
Ian Selby won the male vets race, Eric Rannicar was first male over-60, Chris Kay first U17 male, Benoit Yerle won the junior male race and the Harriers men’s team capped a great overall performance to win the team event.
Among the other Harriers contestants, Yoann Kloess finished second male junior and Dave Shaw seventh-placed senior male. Other finishers were James Rideout, Ian Gregory, Andrew Doyle, Nick Howarth, Steve Houghton, Gary Jones, Craig McKenzie, Chris Povey, Daryl Bentley, Scott Lowe, Carmel Higgins, Catherine Jones, Janine Knight and Sarah Slack.
