FORMER Sunderland defender Chris Makin is expected to make his debut for Radcliffe Borough tomorrow.
The 36-year-old full-back, who spent three-and-a-half seasons at the Stadium of Light and also played for England Under-21s, Marseille, Ipswich, Leicester, Wigan, Derby, Oldham and Southampton, has joined the UniBond Division One North side for the rest of the season.
He is lined up to kick off his Boro career against Garforth Town at Stainton Park tomorrow when eighth-placed Radcliffe aim to bounce back from Tuesday night’s 1-0 defeat at home to Mossley, only their third defeat in the last 13 games.
Makin retired from professional football in May 2008 after failing to overcome a hip injury and Boro boss Gerry Luczka said: “Chris has agreed to help us out over the next two months. He has kept himself fit and has the obvious quality and experience you would expect.”
Boro will be without Ben Manning who was sent off against Mossley.
Leigh Genesis, two places higher than Boro in sixth, one place and eight points below the play-off zone, will look to build on last weekend’s 2-0 victory at Trafford in their home match against 16th-placed Woodley Sports.
FC United aim to return to winning ways and keep alive their slim hopes of making the Premier Division play-offs when they host bottom-of-the-table Durham City at Gigg Lane tomorrow. The Rebels suffered their first defeat of the year against Buxton last time out which ended their eight-game unbeaten run.
