FOOTBALL: Gerry Luczka is expecting “one hell of a game” when Skelmersdale United visit Radcliffe Borough tomorrow in the UniBond League First Division.
Boro’s director of football reckons the humiliating 4-0 home defeat his men inflicted on Skelmersdale last month is one they will want to avenge.
Luczka, however, will be far happier going into the match after Tuesday night’s 4-2 victory over Bamber Bridge in which Adam Roscoe scored all Boro’s goals, taking his season’s tally to 17 in 15 starts.
The partnership of Roscoe and Ben Wharton has yielded 32 goals — a partnership Luckza hopes will remain in outstanding form.
“If we are going to get anything out of the Skelmersdale game, Adam and Ben — as well as the rest of the lads — are going to have to be at the top of their game because they are an excellent side,” he said.
Former Sunderland, Marseille and England Under-21s star Chris Makin made his debut on Tuesday and helped Boro bounce back from Saturday’s 2-0 defeat by Garforth Town.
Sky Sports cameras will be at the Leigh Sports Village Stadium tomorrow as Leigh Genesis continue their charge for the UniBond League First Division North promotion play-offs against ossett Albion.
After Saturday’s resounding 2-0 home win over Woodley Sports secured a third successive victory for Garry Flitcroft’s side, Genesis are just five points off a play-off position.
Sky Sports are focusing on former Premier League players at the lower levels, which include manager Flitcroft, who made almost 400 Premier League appearances for Manchester City and Blackburn Rovers, along with former England Under-21s, Blackburn and Bolton striker Matt Jansen.
FC United are looking to get back to winning ways after three successive defeats when they host Hucknall Town at Gigg Lane tomorrow.
The Rebels’ hopes of reaching the UniBond League Premier Division play-offs and pulling off a fourth promotion in five seasons appear to be in tatters after their recent bad run.
They are 12 points off the top-five places.
