DAVID Moyes admitted Everton had not been at their best as he marked his eighth anniversary in charge at Goodison with a victory.

The Blues were made to work hard in a match Wanderers could easily have been ahead in until Gretar Steinsson’s sending off 20 minutes from time. But Moyes gave Wanderers no credit for making them fight for their seventh successive home win.

“Bolton came in and made it very hard but they didn’t offer any attacking threats, with the exception of a couple of free-kicks,” said the manger, a tad ungraciously and completely overlooking Kevin Davies’s chance to open the scoring in the first half from the game’s best move.

“We were the only team I felt was going to go on to win the game. I thought we were the better team and we were the team who passed it.”

Moyes did, however, accept referee Alan Wiley’s decision to send off Steinsson for bringing down Yakubu which led to Mikel Arteta’s opening goal swung the game Everton’s way.

“It was a turning point but it was up to us to make it so,” he said. “When I first saw the sending off I wasn’t sure but having seen it again I thought it was right.”
