WANDERERS wasted a superb opportunity to guarantee their Premier League status as they threw away a two-goal lead against crisis club Portsmouth.
Goals from Ivan Klasnic and Kevin Davies in two first-half minutes had put Owen Coyle’s side totally in control at the Reebok.
But Aruna Didnane’s second-half double earned already-relegated Pompey a share of the spoils.
Klasnic headed home Jack Wilshere’s cross on 26 minutes before Davies tapped in Vladimir Weiss’ cross after a breathtaking solo run from the on-loan winger.
Wanderers were cruising but Didnane scuffed shot reduced the deficit 10 minutes into the second period.
And the Ivory Coast striker grabbed a 68th-minute equaliser as the Whites floundered after the break.
Davies came within inches of winning it in the forth minute of injury time but his header came back of the post to leave Owen Coyle’s side needing one point from their final two games to be mathematically certain of safety.
